SIZE & FIT

Profile Size Guide

Learn how to read LED aluminum channel dimensions, compare inner width and profile depth, and confirm installation clearance before ordering.

The 4 dimensions to check

Profile size is more than the outside width and height. Inner width and depth determine whether your LED strip fits and how the finished light looks.

01

Outer Width

The total outside width of the aluminum profile.

02

Outer Height

The total outside height or depth of the profile.

03

Inner Width

The usable cavity width that determines LED strip compatibility.

04

Profile Depth

The distance between the LED strip and diffuser, which can affect diffusion.

How to read profile dimensions

A size such as 17 × 9mm usually describes the outer profile dimensions. Always check the individual product drawing because width and height orientation can vary by profile type.

Use the product drawing as the final reference. The cross-section drawing shows the exact outer size, inner cavity and mounting shape.

Inner width determines strip fit

The LED strip must fit inside the usable channel cavity. A little extra clearance can make installation easier, especially for wider PCB strips.

LED strip width ≤ channel inner width For a 10mm strip, choose a channel with at least 10mm usable inner width.

Common size examples

Use these examples as a quick way to understand how different profile dimensions affect fit and appearance.

Compact Surface Mount

Good for cabinets, shelves and other locations where a smaller visible profile is preferred.

Example: 17 × 9mm

Deeper Profile

More internal depth can give the diffuser additional distance from the LEDs for a smoother light line.

Example: 23 × 9mm

Corner Profile

Angled profiles use a different cross-section, so always compare the drawing rather than only the listed size.

Example: 16 × 16mm

What each dimension means

Check all four before ordering, especially when the channel must fit into furniture, millwork, walls or ceilings.

Dimension What it tells you Why it matters Check before ordering
Outer Width Overall width of the profile. Helps confirm available installation space. Cabinet, shelf, wall or recess width.
Outer Height Overall height or depth of the profile. Affects how much the channel projects or recesses. Available depth and mounting clearance.
Inner Width Usable space for the LED strip. Determines whether the PCB fits inside the channel. Your LED strip PCB width.
Profile Depth Distance available above the LED strip. Can influence diffuser distance and visible hot spots. Desired light diffusion and finished appearance.
Allow for installation clearance

For recessed or built-in installations, do not cut the opening to the exact profile size without checking the mounting method. Clips, flanges, end caps, wiring and construction tolerances may require additional space.

Compare real profile sizes

Use actual product pages and cross-section drawings to compare dimensions before choosing your profile.

COMPACT EXAMPLE

Compare a compact profile for general cabinet and shelf installations.

DEEP EXAMPLE

Compare a deeper profile when additional diffusion space is preferred.

CORNER EXAMPLE

Compare an angled profile for corner and display installations.
